Battle of the Books

Oregon Battle of the Books

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is an optional reading incentive program. At Sitton, students in grades 3-5 are eligible to participate in teams of 4 or 5 students and at least one parent or teacher coach. Teams will meet together to divide work and prepare for school-wide battles. Each battle consists of 16 questions all relating to a list of books chosen by the State OBOB committee (see booklist below). One winning team from Sitton will go on to Regionals, and potentially State, Finals.

If your student is interested in participating, the first steps are to start reading the OBOB book list and to start looking for potential teammates.

Sitton’s 2025 Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)

How will it work? Teams will be assigned battle times when they will compete against another team. Each battle will have 16 questions (8 “In Which Book…” questions where students will answer with the title and author of a book on the OBOB list and 8 “Content” questions where students will answer with a detail from the book). Each team will have the “first chance” at 8 of the 16 questions, with the potential to “pick up” points should the opposing team answer their question incorrectly. Each team will have an established spokesperson and time to discuss their question before submitting an answer. After all teams battle twice in Round One, teams with the highest point totals will move on to the next round where they will need to win each battle to continue advancing.
